that leaves only one ovary do you still require PAPS exam every year?If you have a hysterectomy?
A hysterectomy typically involves the removal of your uterus, and cervix--which is what hangs into the vagina.
When you have a PAP smear--test done they scrape cells from the cervix.
Whether you have one or both ovaries makes no difference to the results of a PAP.
After a hysterectomy, you would just be concerned with changes to the vaginal wall.
This is a subject that you should consult a Physician about to get in depth information.
If you are sexually active you need the exam, many scary things out there now.
It doesn't remove an ovary, it removes your uterus! Thus, no more pap smears, no more menstrual cycles (though you will still make hormones), no more babies!
yes you do even if the cervix is removed you can get ovarian cancer and the cusp which is the wall can get cancer i had a hysterectomy 9 months ago and i just asked my dr all of these questions. please don't miss your yearly pap it is still very important to your health. i know it's not pleasant but if it keeps you from getting cancer its really not that big of an inconvienience. it's just a part of being a woman and with every thing else a woman has to worry about female cancer is one to take very serious.
